Saint Valentine’s Day

Saint Valentine’s Day, a fine day where is mixed together at leisure flowers and snow; red and white; lace and chocolate; affection, love and friendship.

I remember having read and re-read every Saint-Valentine’s eve, so to put myself in the atmosphere, in a fairytale book which I remember neither the title nor the author… the cover having been missing for ages J… the pretty story entitled “Valentine Lace” and the beautiful poem “Snow Valentines”.

I also remember the amusing little valentines that we gave and received in school, sometimes from each member of our classroom.

I still love a lot to adorn our house with decorations that remind me of what I love best of this feast.

I also kept the habit every morning of February 14th, to outline outdoors in the snow a huge heart… an idea I borrowed from a children TV show that I was terribly fond of THE FRIENDLY GIANT.

I have wished for many a year that on Valentine’s Day, absolutely everything outdoors be covered with rime… rime, that snow so light and sparkling, that it  looks like lace… and that wish came through only once, but the rime had stayed all day. I had felt as though I had suddenly entered the poem “Snow Valentines” I talked about earlier.

Here are some photos of a few of those “school cards”:

Here is a picture of stickers we had in school that will bring back beautiful memories to the nostalgic minds:
