The Monkees
THE MONKEES! A very popular rock group in the sixties, they were! MIKE NESMITH, MICKY DOLENZ, PETER TORK and DAVY JONES have made many a heart beat faster and many a teenager dance in the turbulent years that were the 60s and 70s. But what I find quite amusing is the fact that after all this time, what do they still do if not make lots of hearts beat faster and make many parents dance as well as teenagers and children “fans from a new generation” ?
They have celebrated an important anniversary on September 12th 2006… I dare not write the number of artistic years they have celebrated… my relatives, friends and acquaintances would not be able to lie on their age anymore… And neither would I.
I realize to-day that they did not get enough credit for their musical work. They have made history by utterly inventing a new beat: adding to rock’n’role different music styles. Whether it be “country rock”, “pop rock”, ”Broadway rock”, “folk music and rock” and even sometimes “classical music and rock”. These “frantic blendings” are quite common to-day, but back then it was extremely innovative and has caused more than one frown. We can also clearly see from the musical sequences of their TV series that they are the inventors of the video clip.
They have not been afraid to try new styles that go without saying today…
But at the time I was not thinking about those things; I was the little girl who loved to get up early in order to watch the Saturday morning cartoons on television and laugh a great deal and dance while watching THE MONKEES series that they had inserted in the program because the humour of these four troubadours had a cartoon resemblance.
The few pictures I have inserted are photographs of pictures I had cut from magazines and pasted in a scrap book.
For the second year of their career, we had to get used to a new look that was in relation with the 60s and 70s… but when you are that “cute”, you can allow yourself a few vestimentary eccentricities.
I love to know the celebrities’ birthdays. Here are the ones of each of them.
MIKE NESMITH : December 30th.
MICKY DOLENZ : March 8th.
PETER TORK : February 13th.
DAVY JONES : December 30th.
NOTE : Le fait que les anniversaires de deux d’entre eux (MIKE et DAVY) soient la même journée m’a toujours amusée. Je trouve fascinant les petites coïncidences de la vie.
